Italy Education System

In Italy, the education system is predominantly state-funded, making public schools a popular choice. Nonetheless, private and international schools are also available in the country.


In Italy, education is compulsory from ages 6 to 16. On average, students undergo 16.7 years of education, slightly below the OECD average of 18 years. In terms of educational quality, Italy's performance in reading, mathematics, and sciences scores 477, slightly below the OECD average of 488.

Conditions for Admission

Undergraduate: 

·         Minimum 60% in HSC

·         A bachelor’s maximum of 2 years of gap will be acceptable, and it should be justified

·         Duration of Course: 3 Years

Masters:

·         Minimum 60% in bachelor’s 

·         A master’s maximum of 8 years of gap will be acceptable, and it should be justified

·         Duration of the course: 1 or 2 years

Language Requirement

·         Requires a minimum of 60% for Bachelors or Masters; IELTS score of 6.5 is optional.

·         Requires a minimum of 55% for Graduation Bachelors; IELTS score of 6.5 is required.

Job Opportunities

·    During regular classes, students can work up to 20 hours per week, and during holidays, they can work up to 40 hours per week.

Stay back

In Italy, stay-back options are exclusively available to those who have completed a PhD or a level 2 Master’s Program. Referred to as "Permesso di Soggiorno," or Residence Permit, the stay-back period is typically permitted for 6 to 12 months, depending on the course and university.


If a student fails to secure employment during this period, they must return to their home country. Therefore, international students can only stay back in Italy after completing their Masters or PhD programs.
